Timelife

  • 25 June 1903: Was born India.
  • One year old: His mother moved back to England while his father stayed in India until 1912.
  • 1911: Went to St Cyprian's School in Eastbourne.
  • 1917: Won a scholarship to Eton.
  • 1921: Joined the British police in Burma.
  • 1927: Grew dissatisfied and resigned - decided become writer.
  • 1928: Journeyed to Paris.
  • 1932-1933: Worked as a teacher in private school.
  • 1934: Got a part time job in a second hand bookshop.
  • 1933: First book was published 'Down and Out in Paris and London'.
  • 1934: First novel 'Burmese Days' was published.
  • 1935: 'A Clergyman's Daughter' novel published.
  • 1936: Married first wife Eileen.
  • 1936: Write a book about poverty in Northern England.
  • 1937: Published 'The Road to Wigan Pier'.
  • December 1936: Fight in the Spanish Civil War.
  • 1938: Published 'A Homage to Catalonia'.
  • 1938: Was suffering from tuberculosis.
  • 1938-1939: Spent winter in Morocco.
  • 1939: Published 'Coming Up For Air'.
  • Beginning of the Second World War: Was rejected for military service.
  • 1941 to 1943: Worked for the BBC.
  • 1943: Became literary editor for the Tribune a left wing magazine.
  • 1945: Published 'Animal Warm'.
  • 1949: Published 'Masterpiece 1984'.
  • October 1949: Married second wife Sonia.
  • 21 January 1950: Died.
 Turning point
  1. Orwell joined the Bristish police in Burma since 1921 but grew dissatisfied and resigned in 1927. After that, George Orwell decided to become a writer and also began living among the poor.
  2. He published his first book 'Down and Out in Paris and London' in 1933 and 1934, and even his first novel 'Burmese Days' was published as well.
  3. Orwell left for Spain in December 1936 to fight in the Spanish Civil War. He forced to flee from Spain after the Communists had begun to arrest dissenters.
  4. He had rejected for  military service before he worked for the BBC from 1941 to 1943.
  5. In 1943, he became literary editor for the Tribune a left wing magazine.
